Could we say that there is a problem in the LNG supply chain?
It is necessary a huge amount of energy to licuify the natural gas. It considered that in order to produce 1 kg of LNG, around 1370 kJ are consumed.
After that, when the LNG is regasified in the comsumption place, none of that energy is usually recovered. That makes the LNG more expensive than the regular natural gas.
Therefore, is it possible to develop a system to take advantage of all that energy stored in the LNG during the regasification process?
Yes, it is. Several terminals in Japan have implemented such a system and they are generating interesting quantities of electricity meanwhile the efficiency of the process improve. This reduces the impact on the environment and even makes natural gas a cleaner fossil fuel.
