We are looking into renewable energy systems, more specific photovoltaics (PV). The focus is on two particular parts of the system; Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and Grid Synchronization. MPPT is a control system for extracting the highest amount of energy from PV panels at any time based on weather conditions. Grid synchronization is performed to make sure that phase, amplitude and frequency of the power fed back to the grid is in accordance with grid standards. When a PV-source is connected to the grid, a synchronization process must be performed to uphold the grid quality and avoid potential accidents. Different topologies are being researched and modeled in MATLAB Simulink. These models are tested and compared to validate the different systems.
